Lela Holden Bilbrey

Funeral for Lela Holden Bilbrey, 95, Lawton, will be at 10 a.m. Monday, March 13, 2017, at Cache First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Chuck Rettig, pastor officiating.
Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens under direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home.
Mrs. Bilbrey passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2017, in Lawton.
Lela was born Sept. 15, 1921, in Appleton, Ark., to Milton George “Roy” and Laura Freeman Simmons. She graduated from Cache High School in May 1940 and married Lee J. Holden, of Meers, on May 20, 1940. He passed from this life May 30, 1990, after 50 years and 10 days of marriage to Lela.
She was a hard worker and had numerous jobs from a young age, including picking cotton, cleaning houses, and running a cafe in Cache. She was a terrific cook. She then graduated from Lawton Business College in 1958 and worked 22Ω years in finance and accounting in commercial accounts at Fort Sill. Lela would remark often how much she enjoyed her job and she received numerous awards for her work. She retired in 1981.
She married Oster Bilbrey, of Waurika, on July 18, 1992. He died Oct. 9, 2002. She was a member of Cache First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Don Hawthorne, of Cache; one son-in-law, Dave Wemhaner, of Tulsa; four granddaughters and spouses: Dana Hawthorne, of Austin, Texas, Sheri and James Tubach, of Topeka, Kan., Susanne and John Fredricksen, of San Antonio, Texas, and Tiffany and Austin Sibley, of Gig Harbor, Wash.; seven great-grandchildren, Hollie, Tyler, Darby, Carter, Tatum, Rowan, and Tristan; a sister-in-law, Geneva Simmons; of Cache; and many special nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; one very precious daughter, Garvene Holden Wemhaner; one sister, Lillian Simmons Cowan; and two brothers: Lawrence and Lonnie Simmons.
