The Medicine Park Board of Trustees is shorthanded after two trustees, including the mayor, tendered their resignations.
Thursday’s regular scheduled meeting of the board of trustees was canceled because a quorum was not met when three of the five members of the board didn’t appear. Chas Callich, trustee and mayor, submitted his resignation via a letter read aloud by fellow trustee Gordon Dye. Callich was absent, along with trustees Odus Hennessee and Vice Mayor Mark Wicks. Hennessee submitted his resignation Friday morning, said Lee Hibbetts, town clerk. Both resignations were effective immediately.
With three current sitting trustees, the town government can continue to function, Hibbetts said. Town officials are investigating options for moving forward. The easiest course of action will be to schedule a special session of the board of trustees, where the remaining three members can appoint two individuals who have submitted letters of intent to be considered to serve the remaining portion of those terms through April. Hibbetts said a regular municipal election will be held that month, where those who would be appointed would then run for the office to fulfill either a new four-year term, in the case of Hennessee’s vacant seat, or two years to complete the remainder of the term for Callich’s vacant seat.
